When Style Meets Function in a Designer Terrigal Home
A Smart Flooring Upgrade for a Terrigal Designer Home

When renovating a coastal home, choosing the right flooring is about more than appearance — it’s about selecting materials that balance style, durability, and performance in different environments.
In this designer home renovation in Terrigal on the NSW Central Coast, the homeowners wanted to remove the carpet from their bedrooms and replace it with beautiful Blackbutt timber flooring that matched the existing floors throughout the home.
The main living areas already featured select grade wide Blackbutt traditional timber floorboards, giving the property a warm and natural coastal look. The challenge was creating a seamless transition between the existing flooring and the newly renovated bedrooms, while also accounting for the unique conditions across the home's multiple levels.
At My Timber, we specialise in designing flooring solutions that suit both the design vision and the practical needs of the home.

Matching Existing Blackbutt Timber Floors
To maintain the natural flow of the home, we carefully selected an Engineered Blackbutt timber flooring that closely matched the existing traditional timber boards.
For the lower and middle level bedrooms, we installed 189mm wide Blackbutt engineered timber flooring from the Fiddleback Series.
This wide plank format allowed the new flooring to blend beautifully with the existing floors while providing the benefits of engineered timber, including greater structural stability and adaptability to changing environmental conditions.
The result is a seamless transition between the original Blackbutt flooring and the new bedroom floors, allowing the modern coastal design style to flow effortlessly throughout the home.
Engineered timber flooring is a popular choice for Central Coast homes, as it combines the natural beauty of hardwood with improved stability and installation flexibility.

Solving a Unique Flooring Challenge in the Loft
One of the biggest challenges in this Terrigal home was the loft bedroom.
Because heat naturally rises through the home, the loft experiences higher temperatures than the lower levels, making engineered timber flooring less suitable for this particular space.
To ensure long-term performance and stability, we recommended a high-quality laminate flooring system instead.
We selected a Blackbutt décor from the LuxFlor laminate series, featuring long length boards with water-resistant technology. This allowed us to maintain the same natural Blackbutt appearance while providing a flooring system better suited to the loft’s environmental conditions.
Laminate flooring systems are commonly installed as floating floors, allowing them to expand and contract naturally with temperature changes, which helps maintain performance and durability in areas exposed to fluctuating conditions.

A Matching Laminate Staircase for a Cohesive Design
To complete the renovation, we installed a matching laminate staircase system connecting the loft to the rest of the home.
The staircase currently features raw risers, which the homeowners plan to paint white in the future to match the other staircases throughout the property.
Once completed, this will create a beautiful contrast between the white risers and Blackbutt flooring, enhancing the modern coastal design aesthetic.

Combining Flooring Solutions for the Perfect Result
Rather than forcing a single flooring product throughout the entire home, this project demonstrates how combining the right materials can achieve the best outcome.
By using both engineered timber flooring and laminate flooring, we were able to:
- Maintain the natural Blackbutt timber look throughout the home
- Ensure each level had flooring suited to its environmental conditions
- Create a seamless visual flow across multiple levels
- Deliver a flooring solution that balances design, durability, and practicality
The finished result adds both style and long-term value to this Terrigal designer home.
